About | |||
DAg ARt started as a platform for three artists to collaboratively produce art for the streets. It encompasses stencils, pasted images, and collaged stickers primarily. Works have been displayed on the streets of Sydney, Newcastle, Melbourne, Hong Kong and more recently works have graced gallery walls.
DAg ARt is recontextualised images and text from mass produced media. Thousands of small collages have been created, using sources as varied as Woman's Day, Ironman magazines, soft-core pornography, National Geographic, trashy mens mags, gossip mags, celebrity magazines, Seniors newspapers and leaflet advertising. The pieces juxtapose unexpected pairings of text and image to create a new message, which can be comic, topical, honest, absurd, and/or offensive
The method of making collages was derived from the Dada poetry technique of cutting up words and randomly assembling them. As magazines were the main source, it was not long before images naturally became part of the stickers. | ![]()
The working dynamic of the group allows ideas to flow out, and get distorted, or in some way tainted and then returned with an imbued meaning. DAg ARt has a way of twisting and bending ideas- creating imagery that provokes and questions. DAg Art relishes the obscene and the absurd whilst also being able to exist in that special place between humour and despair. It is dark humour and irony basking in celebrity trash culture with a hint of heart.
